How to Cater a Summer Party in Boulder (and Actually Enjoy It)

A Boulder caterer's guide to summer party catering — full-service vs. drop-off, timing, dietary planning, and how to be a guest at your own party.

Boulder summers are made for gathering. Graduation season rolls into backyard birthdays, anniversary dinners stretch onto patios, and before you know it half your calendar is parties. The question is whether you get to enjoy any of them. If you have ever spent your own party refilling trays and hunting for serving spoons, this guide is for you. Here is how we think about party catering in Boulder after hosting summers here since 1987.

Decide What Kind of Host You Want to Be

The first decision is not the menu. It is how much of the event you want on your shoulders.

Drop-off catering means the food arrives and everything else is yours: setup, serving, keeping platters fresh in July heat, and the cleanup that starts while your guests are still saying goodbye. It works for casual gatherings, and we do it well.

Full-service catering means our team arrives early, sets the space, keeps every platter looking like the first pass, pours and clears, and leaves your kitchen cleaner than we found it. You spend the party in the yard with your people, not at the counter. That is the promise we build everything around: you should be a guest at your own party.

Plan for Boulder’s Summer, Not Summer in General

Catering outdoors along the Front Range has its own rules. Afternoon sun at altitude is stronger than guests expect, so we plan shade for food stations and stagger service so nothing sits out. Evening temperature drops come fast, which shapes when hot items land. And summer afternoon storms are real: a good caterer arrives with a weather plan, not just a menu.

Timing matters too. Boulder’s event calendar is crowded from May through September, and the best dates book early. If your party has a fixed date — a milestone birthday, a reunion weekend — reach out as soon as you know it.

Feed Everyone, Not Almost Everyone

Every party has the guest who quietly skips the buffet. Dietary care is a specialty for us, not a workaround: gluten-free options, clearly labeled dishes, and menus built so vegetarian and allergy-conscious guests eat as well as everyone else. Ask any caterer you are considering how they handle this. The answer tells you a lot.

Right-Size the Plan

We cater Boulder and Denver gatherings from intimate dinners to the largest celebrations, and the plan should match the party. A ten-person anniversary dinner wants plated courses and quiet service. A graduation open house wants stations that handle waves of guests. Birthdays, retirement parties, and celebrations of life each have their own rhythm, and a menu built around yours beats a package every time.

Start With a Conversation

There is no price list here and no packages — every party starts with what you are celebrating, who is coming, and how you want the day to feel. Tell us about your summer party and we will build the plan around it. Let’s get cooking.
